Nokia Joins Plans To Create Flash Memory Card Standard

Helsinki, Finland (AHN) - Cell phone giant Nokia announced Thursday it will join efforts to develop a flash memory standard for handsets and digital cameras regardless of maker. Samsung and Sony Ericsson are also part of the team.

The results of the joint project should bear fruit in 2009 possibly reducing access time for media, such as movies, according to the AP. The standard will follow the Universal Flash Storage guidelines.

Memory makers Micron Technology, Texas Instruments, STMicroelectronics NV and Spansion LLC are also part of the program.
