The Latest Hits in Cell Phone Technology
Cell phone technology continues to move forward by leaps and bounds. One Israeli company has cashed in on the text message market while another is seeking to make cell phones more “Jewish.”
ZMS – A New Way of Text Messaging
For cell phone users looking for something a little livelier in their text messaging, an Israel company is providing that alternative. Instead of SMS, there is ZMS, an icon-based message.
Israeli Yoav Lorch founded Zlango, which provides a revolutionary messaging platform. Since its inception in 2003, Zlango has created more than 200 icons, easily accessible even to the technologically impaired.
Zlango has become popular internationally because it is a multi-language and multi-regional product, accessible to cell phone users worldwide because it cuts through the language barrier. Users send and receive Zlango messages through the regular SMS section of the phone.

The ‘Uniquely Jewish’ Cell Phone
If you’re a person of words rather than cute symbols, there is MazelMobile, which sends subscribers daily text messages containing important Jewish dates, humor, wisdom and information directly to their cell phones.
Evan Lazarus, president of the company that created MazelMobile, said it was designed to make mobile phones “more Jewish.” MazelMobile gives users access to an assortment of Jewish background wallpapers, logos and ring tones.
Mazel means luck in Hebrew. The company is also establishing affiliate programs, which donate $1 per subscriber to Jewish organizations. “Organizations, synagogues, and charities can sign up for a MazelMobile.com affiliate number and instantly create their own fund-raising program,” said Lazarus.
“We felt it was time to give the cell phones of the Jewish community a distinctively Jewish identity. At the same time I could give something back to my own community through the mobile Tzedakah (charity) program.”
