Nokia XpressMusic 5310 for T-Mobile

And now for something really thin! The XpressMusic 5310 replaces the pleasantly portly Nokia XpressMusic 5300 slider music phone on T-Mobile. The phone weighs only 2.48 ounces and is 0.39 inches thin. It’s a slick looking phone with good features despite a low $49 price tag on T-Mobile. It runs Nokia’s S40 software, has a very capable music player that’s compatible with MP3, WMA and iTunes unprotected AAC files. It has Bluetooth with A2DP stereo, and a microSD expansion slot that’s SHDC compatible. T-Mobile and Nokia include a 1 gig card in the box along with a good quality stereo headset.

GSM Technology vs CDMA Technology

GSM
gsm cellular phone
In 1989, GSM responsibility was transferred to the European Telecommunication Standards Institute (ETSI), and phase I of the GSM specifications were published in 1990. Commercial service was started in mid1991, and by 1993 there were 36 GSM networks in 22 countries, with 25 additional countries having already selected or considering GSM In addition to Europe, South Africa, Australia, and many Middle and Far East countries have chosen to adopt GSM. By the beginning of 1994, there were 1.3 million subscribers worldwide. The acronym GSM now (aptly) stands for Global System for Mobile telecommunications.

From the beginning, the planners of GSM wanted ISDN compatibility in services offered and control signaling used. The radio link imposed some limitations, however, since the standard ISDN bit rate of 64 Kbps could not be practically achieved. Read more…

Nokia 3120 Classic cell phone

Nokia 3120 ClassicDon’t let that rather dated exterior fool you, because the newly announced Nokia 3120 Classic cell phone comes equipped with all the latest technology that you’ve come to expect from the Finnish phone-maker.

It’s a pretty standard-looking candybar with a large color display, five way navigator, and a rounded bottom (the bottom is similar to the 8800, except this is obviously not a slider).

A look at the features, however, will quickly unearth some totally acceptable and respectable specs. In addition to the quad-band GSM/EDGE radios, the Nokia 3120 Classic also gets North America-friendly WCDMA 3G radios (850/1900) for a high-speed connection on the go. Alternate configurations bring up 3G radios for Europe and Australia/South America. The other wireless connection comes by way of Bluetooth 2.0.
